My love for woodworking started from pure curiosity and the drive to build with my own hands. I am a completely self-taught woodworker, and every skill I have today was earned through real work, real mistakes, and the determination to master my craft. Woodworking became a passion because it allowed me to take raw, unfinished materials and shape them into something lasting and meaningful. Through trial, research, and hands-on experience, I developed a deep understanding of tools, techniques, and wood types. From rough cutting to planning, jointing, and final assembly, I taught myself to bring out the best in every project. I find a special pride in knowing that every table, every repair, every piece I’ve built reflects a journey of persistence and growth. Woodworking isn’t just a trade to me — it’s a form of art, a discipline, and a personal challenge that I’m passionate about improving every day. Being self-taught has given me a deeper respect for the process and a true appreciation for craftsmanship, and I’m excited to keep growing and learning with every new project.

My name is Sandro, and I’m a Haitian-born aspiring nurse and entrepreneur with a vision to disrupt the construction industry through social impact. After immigrating to Canada, I became increasingly aware of the systemic barriers faced by racialized communities—especially those at the intersection of immigration, race, and gender. These experiences shaped my desire to not only pursue a career in healthcare but to also create real, tangible opportunities for others. I am currently laying the groundwork for Aurephar Inc., a construction company focused on building affordable housing while creating accessible pathways into the industry for skilled laborers from underrepresented backgrounds. Too often, people of color are excluded from meaningful participation in sectors like construction—not due to lack of talent, but due to a lack of access. Through Aurephar, I hope to change that. At the same time, I am completing my nursing studies, driven by a commitment to community care, healing, and wellness. I see health and housing as deeply connected pillars of stability, and my goal is to bridge both worlds through entrepreneurship and service. The Savvy Fellowship represents a unique opportunity for me to sharpen my business skills, connect with like-minded changemakers, and bring my vision for equity-driven development to life.
