Profile

Michelle Avery

In my current role I oversee and provide statewide programmatic support for the Court Navigator Program, train volunteers, develop legal information resources to assist unrepresented court users and engage in legal and policy research on matters involving access to justice. I am passionate about generating ideas to refine outdated systems and investigating the diverse technological tools and instructional methods available to increase the knowledge base and legal capability of unrepresented litigants and lay volunteers. In the first five months of my current role, I enhanced the Court Navigator Program by re-establishing in-person operations in Brooklyn, NY, developed a more robust curriculum for the volunteers and devised a system to capture data that demonstrated the number of individuals serviced by our program and the manner of assistance offered.
