Martha Mukai is a Kenyan social entrepreneur and the founder of Darubini ya Afya, an innovative clean-energy and environmental sustainability enterprise creating syngas-based cooking solutions and Eco Char biochar systems for schools and communities. With an academic background in Public Health, a Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Certificate in HIV & AIDS, Martha combines health knowledge, environmental science, and community development to address the interconnected challenges of energy poverty, climate change, and waste management.
Her enterprise converts agricultural and plastic waste into clean syngas and high-quality biochar, reducing schools’ dependence on firewood and LPG while lowering carbon emissions and promoting sustainable land restoration. She has led multiple community-focused projects, engaged youth in climate action, and represented Kenya in regional climate and policy forums.
Martha is passionate about green innovation, women’s leadership, and building practical, scalable solutions that improve health outcomes and economic resilience—especially for underserved communities. She is also committed to empowering young people through entrepreneurship, digital skills, and climate-smart initiatives.
Through her work, she aims to create a cleaner, healthier, and more inclusive future driven by youth-led innovation.
