Profile

LUCY Mwenye

Born and raised in Malawi, a developing nation in South East Africa, I intimately understood the health challenges faced by communities with limited resources and facilities. This upbringing fueled my passion for public health and development. From 2011 to 2014, I actively promoted clean water conservation in rural Malawi, addressing water-borne diseases and contributing to the fight against malnutrition and child stunting.

In 2014, I seized the opportunity to pursue a health science degree at Wichita State University, graduating in May 2020 with a minor in public health. During college, I dedicated two years to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, showcasing my commitment to community service. Participating in a medical outreach team to the Ivory Coast in 2017 solidified my dedication to public health.

Post-graduation, I worked as a project facilitator, conducting extensive research on public health in Kansas. Currently a graduate research assistant at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, I focus on epidemiological analysis of immune genes related to infectious diseases in African populations. My dedication to staying informed is evident in my continuous efforts to read, watch, and stay updated on global public health issues. Pursuing a Master of Science in epidemiology is my next step, aiming to contribute significantly to global health outcomes. With my unique background and newfound knowledge, I am poised to address pressing health challenges worldwide.
