Born in Northern Nigeria, where poverty, disease, and limited access to education shaped daily life, Okpala Kenneth Anayo developed resilience and determination from an early age. To support his schooling, he sold green vegetables and walked five kilometres to school for many years, inspired by his parents and driven by the realities of poor healthcare, hardship, and preventable deaths around him. As the eldest child, he took on adult responsibilities early, including cooking for his family, experiences that strengthened his discipline, compassion, and sense of purpose.
Kenneth is a development and public health professional with a PhD in Development Economics, a Master’s degree in Public Health, and an MBA. He has over ten years of experience in Nigeria’s HIV response, working across 15 states and contributing to health systems strengthening, community development, and sustainable livelihood support.
Married and blessed with twin boys, Kenneth is a devoted Catholic who enjoys teaching, cooking, and football. He currently runs a healthy-meal restaurant for diabetic patients and hopes to train people living with HIV in food-based entrepreneurship and supply businesses.
